Casting

Casting is a manufacturing process where liquid metal is poured into a mold that contains a hollow cavity of the desired shape, and then allowed to cool and solidify. Once the metal has solidified, the mold is removed, and you get a finished metal part.
Types of Casting:
•Sand Casting (affordable and flexible)
•Investment Casting (high precision, also called lost-wax casting)
•Die Casting (for high-volume aluminum/zinc parts)
•Centrifugal Casting, Gravity Casting, etc.

Forging

Forging is a manufacturing process where metal is shaped by applying compressive forces, typically using a hammer or press. The metal is usually heated (hot forging) but can also be forged at room temperature (cold forging).
Types of Forging:
•Open Die Forging (simpler, larger parts)
•Closed Die Forging (precise, consistent shapes)
•Cold Forging (high strength, fine surface finish)
•Roll Forging, Upset Forging, etc.

Factors to Consider When Choosing Between Casting & Forging Service

when you are choosing between casting and forging, you must consider the part design, material options, desired properties, surface finish, and budget. To help you with this decision, here is a table summarizing the key differences between casting and forging for your reference:

  • Factor

  • Casting

  • Forging

  • Basic Process

  • Pour molten metal into a mold, let it cool and solidify

  • Deform metal using compressive force (hammering or pressing)

  • Material State

  • Liquid metal

  • Solid metal (hot or cold worked)

  • Shape Complexity

  • Excellent for complex, intricate, and hollow shapes

  • Limited to simpler shapes and solid geometry

  • Design Flexibility

  • High – can produce nearly any geometry

  • Moderate – designs must allow for flow of material

  • Strength & Mechanical Properties

  • Lower – potential porosity, micro-cracks, weaker grain structure

  • Higher – grain flow is aligned for strength and toughness

  • Impact & Fatigue Resistance

  • Lower – more brittle, especially in high-load applications

  • Higher – ideal for cyclic and impact loads

  • Weight Optimization

  • Generally heavier due to need for wall thickness

  • Lighter – optimized strength-to-weight ratio

  • Dimensional Accuracy

  • Good (investment casting), but usually needs machining

  • Very good, especially with closed-die forging

  • Surface Finish

  • Varies by method – die and investment casting offer better finishes

  • Generally smoother, less machining needed

  • Material Options

  • Wide – includes steel, aluminum, copper, bronze, titanium, and exotic alloys

  • Narrower – typically ductile metals like steel, aluminum, titanium

  • Production Volume

  • Cost-effective for low to medium runs

  • Best for medium to high volume production

  • Tooling Cost

  • Lower initial cost for sand or investment casting

  • Higher – die/mold creation is expensive

    Casting and Forging FAQs

We offer a wide range of casting processes to suit various technical and budgetary needs, including:

    • Sand Casting – Ideal for large, complex parts.

    • Investment Casting (Lost Wax) – Suitable for small parts requiring high precision and surface finish.

    • Die Casting – Best for high-volume aluminum or zinc alloy components.

    • Centrifugal Casting – Used for cylindrical or ring-shaped parts.

    • Resin Sand, Shell Mold Casting, and other special methods are also available upon request.

Casting accuracy and surface finish depend on the method used:

    Casting MethodDimensional ToleranceSurface Roughness (Ra)
    Investment CastingCT4–CT63.2–6.3 μm
    Sand CastingCT8–CT1112.5–50 μm
    Die CastingCT5–CT71.6–3.2 μm

We will select the most appropriate method to meet your requirements for quality and cost-effectiveness.

We offer a wide range of forging processes including open die forging, closed die forging, hot forging, warm forging, cold forging, ring rolling, and upset forging. These methods allow us to produce parts of various sizes, complexities, and materials while meeting specific mechanical and dimensional requirements. We select the most suitable process based on your part design, material, and production volume to ensure optimal quality and cost-efficiency.

    We ensure this by:

    Using high-quality raw materials

Implementing controlled forging and heat treatment processes

Performing grain refinement and inclusion control

Mechanical properties such as yield strength, tensile strength, elongation, and impact toughness can be customized to your specs. Full material and testing certifications.

Yes. We provide a full range of secondary processing services, such as:

    • Heat treatments: normalization, quenching and tempering, annealing, surface hardening, etc.

    • CNC machining

    • Surface finishing: sandblasting, black oxide, plating, phosphating, anodizing, etc.

All services can be completed in-house, reducing lead time and cost.

We use multiple methods to ensure precision and stability:

    • Precision die forging with CNC-controlled tools

    • Controlled heating and temperature management to minimize thermal deformation

    • Intermediate annealing to reduce internal stress

    • Post-forging CNC machining for high-accuracy dimensions

Typical forging tolerances are ±0.3–0.5 mm, and for precision parts, ±0.1 mm is achievable.
